History
The cast of the mask of Antonio Coppola is a controversial artwork that is attributed to either Pietro Bernini, the father of Gianlorenzo Bernini, or Gianlorenzo Bernini himself. Some scholars believe that Gianlorenzo Bernini created the mask when he was just 13 years old, while others believe that it was created by his father.
Regardless of who created the mask, it is a portrait of Antonio Coppola, a benefactor of the hospital of the church of the Florentine community in Rome, San Giovanni dei Fiorentini. The marble original of the portrait can still be seen at the hospital.
The mask is an important example of the early work of the Bernini family, who were renowned for their contributions to Baroque art. The controversy surrounding the authorship of the mask highlights the difficulty in determining the origins of some artworks, particularly those from the distant past where records are scarce and conflicting.

The cast is made of jesmonite, which is a product that combines natural raw materials and water based pure acrylic polymers. The jesmonite is carefully applied by hand to the mould in layers. Shredded glass fibres are then added to increase strength without adding bulk or thickness.

If the cast is in stock you have the right to cancel the purchase of a good without having to give a reason at any time, within the “cooling off period” of seven working days, beginning on the day after you receive the goods. If you are in possession of the goods you are under the duty to retain them and take reasonable care of them.
You must send the goods back to us to our contact address at your own costs (unless we delivered the item to you in error or the item is damaged or defective) as soon as possible once you have canceled the contract.
We reserve the right to make a charge not exceeding our direct costs of recovering the goods if you do not return the goods or return them at your expense. Once you have notified us that you wish to cancel the contract, any sum debited to us will be refunded to you as soon as possible and in any event within 30 days of your cancellation.
If the cast you purchase is not in stock and has to be made, then the above terms will apply and any sum debited to us minus 50% will refunded.
